The EU CLP Regulation

Looking to sell chemical substances or mixtures in Europe? Compliance with the EU CLP Regulation (Classification, Labelling and Packaging) is mandatory before placing products on the EU or EEA market.

The EU CLP regulation ensures that hazardous chemicals are clearly classified and labelled according to their risks to human health and the environment. It is the European implementation of the UN Globally Harmonised System (GHS).

How Does CLP Affect Products Placed on the EU Market ?

The EU CLP regulation impacts your products in two key areas:

  • Correct Classification : Each substance or mixture must be assessed and assigned the appropriate hazard class, based on physical, health and environmental hazards.
  • Compliant Labelling and Packaging : Labels must include especially hazard pictograms, products identifiers, signal words, hazard statements, precautionary statements, supplier contact information, in the local language of each country of sale.

In addition, a European operator in necessary to sell products on the european market. That operator will take the responsibility for the compliance of the product.

Beyond CLP labelling information, we also assist you in reviewing and adjusting your product claims.

Chemical products must be labelled in accordance with the EU CLP Regulation if they meet the classification criteria set out in Annex I of the Regulation.

CLP Notifications – Poison Centres

Poison Centre Notifications (PCN) are mandatory for all products (mixtures) presenting physical and/or health hazards in EU. They are also required for all biocidal products placed on the european market.

We handle notifications to all relevant European Poison Centres.

CLP Classification of Substances & Mixtures

Before being placed on the market, chemical products must be classified according to the CLP Regulation. Annex I defines the classification criteria to be applied. CLP classification identifies the physical, toxicological, and eco-toxicological hazards of the product.

CLP Classification Notifications

Do you import substances or mixtures? The CLP classification of chemical substances either on their own or in a mixture, must be notified to the European Classification & Labelling Inventory.

We submit this notification to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) on your behalf.
